The following succulents are all intended for outdoor cultivation, and have been selected for their ability to withstand our cooler winters. All grow best in full sun, on well drained soil, but can also perform well in containers and will withstand shallow poor soils. Some varieties perform well as green roof ground cover, but vigour will be dependant on soil preparation and aspect.
There are 7 products.
Large fleshy leafed variety with orange bells during winter. Easy in coastal gardens, good in pots and perennial plantings; a useful texture plant to combine with other succulents. Keep dry in winter.
Milky white rosette forming variety with pink flowers, attractive in clusters amongst Senecio serpens, sempervivums, and low growing sedums. A good variety for green roofs or amongst masonry.
Temperate bromeliad from Chile for sunny well drained position, also good in pots. The grey green rosette transforms to brilliant red when the wonderful azure flower appears. Likes winter wet and summer dry in our climate. Avoid clay.
Larger agave, but still slow growing like most in a temperate climate. Attractive blue tinged erect saw toothed leaves.
Sculptural rosette forming succulent, attractive in a pot, border, or rock garden setting. Prefers part shade during really hot periods, otherwise drought hardy. Wild populations now endangered so please nuture these in your garden.
A strong white succulent ground cover from Silver Banksia nursery, very tough and the rich green foliage provides a good contrast for the white flowers. Good over a rocky bank, wall, or general ground cover in drier sunny areas.
One of the tightest rosette forming varieties with blue-grey leaves and deep crimson tips. Plant in pots or between rocks.
