Many garden perennials are in fact ancient herbs which were once widely used in herbal folk medicine, and now have been forgotten with the widespread distribution of modern pharmaceuticals. Catmint

Nepeta faasenii. Attractive long flowering plant useful in the garden for path edgings or mass planting amongst Santolina, Chamomile, rosemary and other perennial herbs. A better garden plant than Nepeta cataria which is the cat attracting variety.

Chamomile Roman

Perennial Chamomile, an indispensable herb for soothing teas and a gentle disinfectant for cuts and eye inflammations. Plant closely with thymes for a Chamomile lawn or just grow a few clumps in the herb garden. Distinct from German Chamomile which is the annual variety best grown from seed.

Echinacea pallida

Close relative of Echinacea angustifolia, also used in herbal medicine, sharing many similarities. I find it a better garden plant, more vigorous and productive in growth, and manages better in winter wet.
