My favourite variety for tea when used fresh, with rich clean flavour. Also dries well. Grow in sheltered garden out of hot afternoon sun.
Edible santolina, said to add the flavouring of olives to marinades and baked dishes. Combine with thyme, rosemary, basil and tarragon flavours. Attractive and abundant yellow pompoms.
The purple foliage form of the common elderberry with pink tinged flowers. Similar uses as the green form, attractive garden plant.
Strong landscaping variety with bushy growth ideal for mass planting or hedges. Blue flowers in summer and drought tolerant once established.
Parma type with sweet fragrance, soft lavender lilac double flowers, perfectly placed near a doorway or garden pathway where its subtle perfume can be appreciated.
Lavandula officianalis. The best variety for the garden and low hedging, living longer than most others providing they get an annual chop. 'Hidecote' is light purple with long flower spikes.
Semi prostrate medium blue form with cascading habit, useful winter flowering ground cover.
Alchemilla mollis. Ancient medicinal plant preferring part shade and clay soils, although generally easily grown. Attractive foliage and lime green flowers, winter deciduous.
Prostrate pink thyme only 1 cm high; plant as lawn or amongst stones, gravel or pavers for ground cover.
Perennial Chamomile, an indispensable herb for soothing teas and a gentle disinfectant for cuts and eye inflammations. Plant closely with thymes for a Chamomile lawn or just grow a few clumps in the herb garden. Distinct from German Chamomile which is the annual variety best grown from seed.
Common "meadowsweet", an attractive perennial for damp soil with dozens of medicinal and culinary uses. The white fluffy flowers can be added sparingly to jam and stewed fruit, and can be used to flavour wine, beer and cordials. The root is also used in varied herbal remedies.
Remarkable double white parma violet, sweetly perfumed and delicious. Plant as ground cover in shade under trees, combine with helleborus, anemone, dicentra, and epimedium. Similar to 'Swanley White' but as we have collected these from different sources we have listed separately.
Compact broad bush to 1.5m, vigorous and abundant fruiting. Fruit can become very plump and juicy when ripe, which is ideal for home consumption where the fruit is used fresh, but not so suitable for commercial packaging and storage. As with other varieties, acid well drained soil with plenty of mulch and summer moisture.
Attractive cottage plant and popular medicinal plant also. Easily grown in well drained soil, best with added fertiliser.
