Cultivated form of glomerata with especially rigid upright flower stems and clusters of divine purple flowers. Useful for cutting and clumps well between roses and in the herbaceous border.
Slender wiry stems topped with lolly pink pompoms about the size of a mulberry, flowering for months in summer. Like other sanguisorba they are drought tolerant, but like some clay below the surface.
Geranium phaeum cultivar with attractive dark markings on the leaves, we found this at Elizabeth Strangmans nursery in Kent. Deep wine purple flowers.
Pure white Astilbe, a lovely contrasting variety when planted in combination with Astilbe 'Fanal'. Fresh green foliage and white spikes in early summer.

This variety is particularly good in autumn when the seedheads elongate and stand above the foliage. Another tall variety for behind the border, best cut down to ground level every few years.
Tall wand like stems, topped with pink bells, a lovely waterside plant, or well situated where it has some space around it so its form can be appreciated. Cut back occasionally.
Delightful variety from Wychwood, lovely range of foliage colour including greys, purples and pinks. Distinct from 'Matrona' and 'Purple Emperor', with lower more branched form. Looks good all year both in pots and in the ground. My favourite sedum.
