A versatile rush from South Africa that will grow in a surprising range of conditions. The tall foliage is particularly good all year round, and the new growth resembles bamboo. Good for structure amongst herbaceous plants.
We have selected this form for its showy larger than usual flowers and longer stem, which suits cutting for floral arrangements. To get the best out of these, plenty of fertility and moisture, shade to part sun.
Tall semi evergreen perennial for dry gardens. Usually late winter flowering with tall stems of clustered lime green flowers. Good for winter structure amongst herbaceous plants.
This dwarf variety makes a great subject for a hanging basket or ground cover over a drystone wall. Lovely porcelain blue flowers in summer.

One of the first plants I grew from cutting; quick growing and floriferous in a short space of time. In summer it requires complete cutting to the ground like an oriental poppy, and will resprout in autumn when there is sufficient moisture. Easy and quick to fill in spaces; pink flowers.
A beautiful new variety from our trial beds; flowers open white with a blush of pink on the underside, good stem length and vigour compared to other varieties. Grow in a cool damp spot on rich soil, winter deciduous as per other astrantia. Pinch out first flower to help roots develop.
Rich red flowered form from a strain we grew ten years ago. Thanks to Judy for some fresh seed to enable us to get this strain back into production.

An easily grown long flowering bushy perennial for a sunny spot, repeat flowers during summer and early winter if dead headed. A fine backdrop for lower perennials and fills out well between roses and salvias.
A compact species for border and rock garden which works well for ground cover and edging, does not collapse like taller varieties. Very drought tolerant and tidy compact growth.
