Old fashioned perennial flowering in summer, with cobalt blue spikes and ground covering habit. Easy amongst geraniums, Dianthus, and helianthemums.
Attractive low growing variety that enjoys a meadow style planting amongst grasses and perennials. Dozens of creamy primrose flowers over a long period and reliably perennial.
Japanese woodland species with climbing habit. Prefers drained peaty soil and sun protection, ideal for southern wall or trellis.
Classic old-fashioned cottage perennial with red flowers. I like to combine these with Rudbeckia "Goldsturm" for contrast.
Deep pink armeria, combining well with other miniatures in full sun. Helianthemums, Campanula pulla, Saxifaga caespitosa, and Thymus minimus all combine well.

White flowered delphinium. Classic old-fashioned cottage garden plant and cut flower, plant in a protected spot on well drained fertile soil and these will flower year after year. Squash any nearby snails when the shoots first emerge in spring.
Finer compact foliage than the usual Ajuga. Dense, compact form suitable for rock garden or container planting, effective ground cover in damp areas.
Useful low mounding variety for a mediterranean planting style or gravel garden, combining well with erysimum, euphorbia, perovskia and lavender. Trim after flowering.

A pretty species which grows well in the garden. Reddish pink flared bells on 140 cm stems, native to the eastern Drakensberg region, where it is said to cover complete hillsides.
Gracefully weeping evergreen grass colouring bronze and silver in autumn. Useful as foreground to more upright varieties like Miscanthus "Sarabande" and Calamagrostis "Karl Forester".
One of my favourite salvias, which always looks great in the autumn. The flowers are lime-green and in exhuberant clusters like something tropical. Responds well to good soil.
Attractive multicoloured variety, which starts off as lime green and cream then ages to pink or pale blue depending on soil pH. Morning sun only, best in part shade with good drainage.
