I found this little treasure at Woodbank nursery several years ago. It is a very compact, low plant with impressive large clusters of purple trumpets. Non-invasive and perfect for the rock garden or trough.
Native to the Caucuses, Iran, and widespread in mountainous areas around the Balkan peninsula. A lovely, nodding, soft blue variety with short spurs, easy amongst perennials in woodland or part shade.
Decorative grass with fluffy 'cats tail' seed heads. Does not seed in our summer dry temperate climates, but can be a strong seeder in warmer humid climates if seed heads not trimmed before dispersal.
Attractive glossy foliage plant for shade, use as mass plantings for ground cover or grouped as specimens. Likes free draining soil in a cool position, very tough however once established, evergreen. Flowers unexciting, we usually chop off to feature the beautifully attractive leaves which can get to 20cm across.
